Austria 2024 3 Euro Colored Collectible Coin Glowing in UV Light – Glowing Jellyfish.
This is the sixth coin in the “Glowing Water World” series.
The reverse of the coin features a wide band reminiscent of an ancient porthole, framing a water scene with a pinkish-yellow jellyfish at its center. Above the water surface, an island with palm trees is visible. When the coin is illuminated with ultraviolet light, the jellyfish glows and changes color, turning the light brown color of the bell to blue or red, as well as the pinkish-purple parts of the tentacles and oral arms.
The obverse of the coin depicts silhouettes of all 12 magical sea creatures from the “Glowing Water World” series. Air bubbles rise among them, and the tail fin disappears beneath the waves on the right.

The glowing jellyfish is a transparent, delicate creature that moves through the water with gentle pulsations, as if in slow motion. However, as depicted on the impressive sixth coin in the “Glowing Water World” series, the jellyfish also knows how to put on a light show. The entire body of the glowing jellyfish can illuminate – when it touches a solid object, its bell (umbrella) and tentacles emit light that lasts for several minutes. This bioluminescence occurs when a luminescent molecule is “activated” by an enzyme. The mucus covering the jellyfish also begins to glow and, when adhering to another object, can briefly glow there.
